Pimping My Graphic Tees!

I have a long list of history of romantic affairs with graphic tees! It's my staple clothing, together with jeans and sneakers. I know it's not your conventional girl fashion but I pull it off really well so that's why I tend to stick to this style. I can't put a name on this sense of fashion, I would probably call it comfy casual for myself. Besides, I'm a girl with attitude and nothing can express myself better than these artsy graphic tees.

These are my finest collections thus far. I brought most of them from home even though my mum insisted that I wasn't going to wear them, and some are bought here from thrift stores. I love bargains because I don't believe in spending a lot on a single item. That's just silly and don't give me bullshit about quality. It's all the branding and marketing which droved up prices for many things which you can actually get at a lower price! I don't succumb to that, really.

I get most of my graphic tees below the price of RM30 in Malaysia and $10 in US; I would suggest the following places to get unique graphic tees: Catchup in Sunway, random shops in Sungai Wang Plaza, MNG (go during sales!), FOS, and for US - Forever21, Ragstock, thrift stores in your surrounding area and online boutique. It takes a great amount of patience to look through the pile of clothes they have but you'll eventually find something awesome!

Basically the kind of graphic tee I look for has to fit either one of this criteria:

  • related to music, ie. bands, music instruments (especially guitars), rock out statements, portrait of rock chicks. My personal favorite is the one with a hi-fi strategically printed across the chest (first on the top left), I thought it's a brilliant design and since I'm a sucker for all things related to music, that explains the portable player graphic tee sitting next to it, and the one that says "Party Like A Rock Star" with an electric guitar diagonally placed on the tee. (You can't really see the entire design from the photo though).
  • non-cheesy statements that shouts attitude, ie. personal favorite: "Only Yummy Girl Wears This T-shirt" (spot the red tee with white wordings on the fourth row.) It has a clever design as the words are arranged to look like the shape of a girl. OMG WTF is classic eye-catcher, everyone who walked past me will steal a look at what my shirt says every single time! Well, nothing can go wrong with that except for formal occasions - TOO MUCH ATTITUDE OBVIOUSLY. I also liked the bottom most right that says "Win Something For Someone"
  • a tee that's trying to look like something else, ie. waitress suit or tuxedo. It's just too cute to miss! I also had a graphic tee with a tie printed on it, it is absolutely adorable but I'm too fat for that shirt that's why I never brought it over!
  • faces, numbers, figures and recognizable icons. ie. Starbucks. It's a gift from Lils and we have an identical pair.
  • they mustn't be too fitting but must be tight enough to show waistline. LOL

There you have it, my glorious collection! I'm still on my way of expanding my collection because there's never enough graphic tees in the world! I wish to release my line of tees someday too since I'm into the whole designing scene. We shall see.

Chuck

Presenting to you the most disastrous spies alive - Chuck. Starring Zachary Levi, Yvonne Strahovski, Adam Baldwin, and Joshua Gomez. The 3rd season is still airing on NBC.

I stumbled upon this show by sheer coincidence. I was just browsing for random shows and found Chuck. I was hooked on it since then, and that was two years ago. It's so amazingly funny and honestly, amazing is simply an understatement. Chuck is written by the same person who brought the scandalous filled lives of young Manhattan jet-setters, Gossip Girl, alive - Josh Schwartz. It showcases great castings, solid storyline that's enticing to follow and in-your-face funny. Bottom line, the more I watch it, the more addicted I am.

The story is about Chuck Bartowski (Zachary Levi), a Stanford dropout tech savvy who has an underdog life working in an electrical store leading a bunch of accident prone nerd herds in debugging computers and solving everyday computer problems - but he's not exactly happy about his life, especially the fact that he still lives with his sister and brother-in-law. But one day he became an accidental spy/secret agent after an intersect (a neural supercomputer developed by the US Government, of which contains the government's innermost spy secrets) was being downloaded into his brain under the graces of his college buddy, Bryce Larkin, a secret agent himself. Together with the geek-turn-hero are CIA agent, Sarah Walker (Yvonne Strahovski) and NSA representative John Casey (Adam Baldwin), both assigned by their respective departments to protect him as he is the last remaining person who knows about the intersect.

The story revolves around his whacky adventures and encounters with world class crooks and masterminds. And since Chuck doesn't know how to shoot nor punch without hurting himself more he has to do it his own way and it turns out to be hilarious because he tries so hard to be smooth but always end up goofing around and blowing up his own cover. However thanks to his handlers, Sarah and Casey, this comedy is not only funny, it is packed with loads of ass kicking and wild shooting, not to mention bombs and explosives - there are explosions in almost every episode hence far, but it has decreased over the season due to budget issues. Did I mention that Chuck is also sexy? Not Chuck Bartowski, I'm talking about Sarah Walker! She is too hot to be a spy and there's just something alluring about ass kicking chicks in latex suit.

Is she hot or what?

It is also sweet to watch the budding love chemistry between Chuck and Sarah which contributes to the romantic elements of the show. However, it kills me to think that they might not be able to establish a normal relationship forever because it might jeopardies either of their lives - argh! Sandwiched in between are bunch of quirky lines and stupidity displayed in Buy More, the electrical store where Chuck works while he's not on his crazy missions.

Now for something non-related to the show. Meet the beautiful people in Chuck.

Zachary is so adorable. He recently sang alongside Katharine Mcphee in her song "Terrified" from her new album "Unbroken", the same song that was composed by the awesome Kara DioGuardi, song producer and judge for American Idol.

Hailing all the way from Australia, Yvonne Strahovski of Polish descendent is like a goddess in flesh. She should be sued for looking so hot and great job on the accent! She sounded almost like an American in Chuck but natively Australian in her interviews - confused? She reminded me very much of Olivia Wilde, Lena Headey and hotter version of Julia Stiles.

OMG, look at that hot bod. I wonder when will I get those hard rock abs. Sigh. Chuck, you can stop staring now, you'll never get the girl! Some of her other works are The Canyon.

Matthew Bomer is not a regular on Chuck but when he makes a comeback he's sizzling hot as ever. He plays Bryce Larkin, the spy who sent Chuck the intersect and Sarah's ex boyfriend. Boo. I prefer the Chuck-Sarah combo more but he's still a hottie.

He looks like the Michaelangelo sculpture, David. There's just something about the blue glassy eyes. His latest appearance is in White Collar.

There you have it, my take on Chuck. I'm still watching every episode without fail and I'm even planning on re-watching it! I hope you like this review, more to come.

The L Word

Thanks to cheeserland, I've probably found the first series (to date) that got me hooked on so badly I forked out my last few days in Kuching (when I'm supposed to be stuffing myself with kolo mee and what not) and took only 3 days to finish the first 4 seasons of the series. 5th season of the show will be released really soon, 6th to be exact and every single fan is looking forward to it. Promotion for the latest season as mentioned by long term fans is comparatively hyped and showtime means business this time! I sure hope it's not overrated because this series is only aired every beginning of the year since 2004 while their production took at least 6-7 months or so. They sure kept the fans waiting and hunger for more of the show.

What sort of magic does this series has? Why is it so captivating and not to mention addicting? No, there's no hot guys involved. People watch it for the woman in the show. The unorthodox relationships between beautiful, hot women. It's one of the most sizzling, provocative, controversial series to date. The L Word, brings you the insight of the lesbian/bisexual community.

At first look, especially in season 1 the series looks like a sex manifested show. A lot of nudity, making out, sex - you name it. It may appeal to some, loathed by most but personally I think it's artistically captured. Nothing close to pornography material, it looked just like any other conventional tv series, except the chemistry this time happens between two women instead of opposite gender. But as the story progresses, storyline and emotions start to fall in place. It speaks of the lives of the lesbian community. There are players, bisexuals, married couples, confused-straight-caught-in-the-middle, and those who hides their sexuality. Societies oppose to homosexuality and accuse them for practicing promiscuous sex all the time without emotional attachment because they won't get pregnant over intercourse. But they've forgotten about one thing, their relationships work exactly like heterosexual couples, or should I say relationships between human beings will encounter the same problem regardless whichever gender is involved. You can easily have feelings for someone, but acting on it or not is another question.

The realism of their relationships is enlightening, it's not always about mind blowing sex or experimenting with your sexuality or even the spur of moment sexual tensions. At the end of the day those are just temporary. It takes emotions and commitment to make relationships work. Yes, even if it's socially perceived as wrong or inappropriate.

I share a love an hate relationship with this show however. Being overly engrossed on the plot and characters may turn myself gay temporarily. But then again, you're straight until you're not. And I'm not. Go figure.

Looking forward to more of the show, and the reunion of my favorite couple in the show, Bette and Tina. Right, they're really awesome actresses.

One Liter of Tears

Currently hooked on
"One Liter of Tears"
This beautifully moving drama is based on the real-life struggles of a 15-year-old girl named Aya who suffered from an incurable disease, but lived life to the fullest until her death at 25. The script is based on the diary Aya kept writing until she could no longer hold a pen. The book that later followed entitled “One Litre of Tears" has sold over 1.1 million copies in Japan alone.

Aya's only wish was “to live." By carefully depicting Aya's earnest desire to live, and the love of her family, friends, and lover, the drama, “One Liter of Tears" wishes to deliver her simple but strong message: “Just being alive is such a lovely and wonderful thing." (Resources from DramaWiki)

Since the original diary is out of reach for now, I've conveniently found an online Chinese translated version here. Hopefully I'll get hold of one of the published diary soon.

I've always loved JDrama. They always manage to exert meaningful values and message through their superb narration and plot, why superb? It's not too long for a drama (maximum of 12 episodes), since I only have a short span of attention it's really perfect for me, plus there's never a dull moment where you feel like fast forwarding. And, I like their kind of humor. This drama has taught me much. I should have been more appreciative and complain less knowing how lucky I have been all this while. Things like the ability to walk, talk, and carrying out simple, petty chores come easy for us; but imagine those who struggle to stay alive, something we've stopped worrying since forever; It's indeed unimaginable.

The Devil Wears Prada

Went to watch "The Devil Wears Prada" yesterday. Starring the beautiful Anne Hathaway, she was really fantastic as Andrea Sachs and I love every bit of her flawless porcelain complexion, her elegant demeanor, sweetness, hair, clothes and fashion (After the makeover though, this shows how important FASHION really is). Omg, after watching this, I couldn't lay my eyes on any of the clothes in the local shopping mall. Pathetic huh?! Those designer's clothes are really amazing! And it's an eye opener for me, I'm now not only limited to the acknowledgment of Nike or Adidas or Oreef, Christian Dior, Elle There are actually so much out there! Including those I'd already know and newly acquainted ones, and those really impossible-to-pronounce Italian brands (D&G, Armani, Prada, Bang & Olufsen FYI, this is like the Rolex for audio and electrical gadgets, Calvin Klein etc..) . And you know what? Fashion IS something we ought to learn a lot from. It isn't just about gay designers or rich and famous airheads attending fashion shows and shower in the latest designer's thongs or any of those expensive accessories. It's really about the competition and race of fashion out there. Just like technology. These are the factors which drives the world on. World of fashion. C'mon, you don't wanna wear a leaf covering only your manhood forever huh?

Not forgetting Meryl Streep too as Miranda Priestly, who has been nominated in Oscar more than any other actress has accomplished. So she's the legend alright, and here she's portraying the legend in the fashion industry - Miranda who is downright EVIL and mean editor in chief for Runway. Damn, she hit the role really well, and I love her. Yes, I don't hate her for being hell from boss. I actually liked her, her meanness, and u-must-do-whatever-I-say-or-scram attitude, for being such an acumen and astitute figure. Bad ass one maybe. Yea, I liked that but I'm definitely no where near the hellish boss, I mean working for her is really torture. But I realized something though, and it's right after all. Quote from Nigel, "when you realized your personal life is going out of hand, it's about time you get a promotion". You gain something, then you gotta lose something. It's FAIR.

I liked the ending very well. I'm relieved that Andrea had finally realizes wad she really wanted to do and intended to do all the while, her initial goal - Journalism. And she's made the best choice finally. (Of course, ditching your boss halfway in a fashion trip to Paris was a bit far-fetched) But then that was only what she would've done so well, with integrity. Something she wouldn't have to gain by hurting other people, by sabotaging other people's career. NO, she realized that just in time. Thank goodness huh? It's really saddening to see someone drift away from their beliefs and path as they got influenced by their surroundings. She was nearly one of the "Clackers"(suck up bimbo on ridiculous heels). She nearly changed into another Andy. The Andy that would do ANYTHING for her own career, even something terrible. I was praying hard she wouldn't turn out like her boss. Quote "I'm still the old Andy, just with nicer clothes". If only it were that simple. NO. It's never that simple.

In a whole it was totally awesome and I mean it! Being a picky movie buff myself, it's really hard to find a good film nowadays. And yea, it's been a while since I've watched something so eye-candy, compelling at the same time educating. Oh yea, how could I forget? The music was great! I've listened to the whole soundtrack already and it was great. I love the "Suite from The Devil Wears Prada" best. It sure get me all hyped up and ready for a fashion makeover.

What I love most about the film?

THOSE DESIGNER'S CLOTHES!
They looked awesome on Anne Hathaway, and she's such a bright star in the film despite the fact she's already working with the legendary Meryl, but Anne exudes her personal star "scent" that really captures the audience. I'm beginning to love this girl already. She's really great.

In the movie, there's one part, albeit comical but funny part where Miranda would come in the office and hurl heavy furry-expensive-designer's jackets and her Gucci, Prada branded bags on Andy's table every morning, plus those really silly demands like where's my paper that I read yesterday and etc...But my favorite has to be the TRANSFORMATION. From a I-don't-care-about-fashion ordinary girl, maybe a bit messed up to a dazzling Prada-Gucci-D&G-endorsement-ahead-of-fashion supermodel. Can't imagine? Let the photos do the talking.

There's just something about this outfit, it made her looked so chic at the same time hot, elegant and not lose the sense of "intelligence" DAMN! I love it on her. This is so Anne Hathaway.

Isn't it just eye candy? *drools* I really loved the outfit. Actually this is not ALL. I might capture from the movie itself once I've gotten the DVD. I enjoyed the part where Andy was racing through the streets, and I think they flashed about 5-10 outfits there? All different and damn nice. OMG. It feels so good to be rich and ready to spend on the expensive designer's clothes. *snap back to reality*

Trivia - they've spent more than millions on the clothes in the movie alone. Yikes. Alright, hope those who've not watched it will watch it. It's a great film. Currently reading the book. It's pretty long-winded though. Nevertheless, I hope the book is good as well. I want to be a devil :)
